High-Wear Resistance Application in Coal Mines
March 18, 2026
Industry: Coal & Construction Waste Management
Equipment: CAT 350 & Komatsu PC450 Excavators
Challenge:
A coal recycling plant in North America faced severe wear issues on their excavators handling coal, shale, and construction debris. The high silica content in the material caused rapid abrasion, wearing out standard teeth quickly and leading to increased wear on the bucket adapter.
Solution:
Our high-chromium carbide reinforced bucket teeth were the ideal solution. The hardfacing on the tooth tips provides an extra layer of protection against abrasion, while the body remains tough to prevent bending.
Results:
Dual Protection: The combination of toughness and wear resistance delivered a 40% longer service life compared to standard teeth.
Reduced Adapter Wear: By protecting the tooth tip, the wear on the expensive bucket adapter was also minimized, extending its lifespan as well.
Significant Savings: The client reduced annual replacement costs by over $80,000 USD for their fleet of excavators.
Client Testimonial:
"The abrasion resistance of these teeth is exactly what we needed for our tough coal handling application. We've seen a dramatic decrease in our parts budget."
