Beating Global Giants： How Our Bucket Teeth Won a $20 Million Contract with Rio Tinto in Australia

Background:

In a highly competitive global bidding process organized by John Deere for the world's top three mining companies (including Rio Tinto), our company participated alongside long-standing industry giants like ESCO. The mining operation demanded bucket teeth capable of withstanding extreme abrasion and impact in large excavators handling up to 100 tons of material per scoop.

Challenge:

The primary challenge was balancing hardness with toughness——teeth that are too hard may crack under impact, while teeth that are too soft wear out quickly. The customer required a solution that would maximize wear life while maintaining structural integrity under high-stress loading.

Solution:

Our engineering team, leveraging advanced metallurgical research conducted in partnership with the Chinese Academy of Sciences' Institute of Metal Research, developed a "super-hard and tough" wear-resistant cast steel technology. This innovation was applied to our bucket teeth, specifically designed for CAT 6060 and 7495 shovels used in Australian mines.

Results:

After rigorous product testing by John Deere, our bucket teeth were certified as having the highest performance among all competitors. We secured a one-year supply contract valued at $20 million. The teeth demonstrated superior durability in the field, significantly reducing replacement frequency and downtime for the mining operation. This success marked the first time a Chinese manufacturer won against established Western competitors in this specialized segment.
